Masterworks
Website design
There are two main constants in life: death and taxes. And for designers, I would propose a third: designing for yourself is hard. I've worked at Masterworks since 2010 and we have had at least three different websites during my tenure. This is the fourth during my time and my contribution to our online legacy.
With this site, we made a distinct shift away from a simple "brochure" style site towards more of content marketing driven approach. The blog was always the part of the site that got the most repeat traffic so we decided to put our blog posts front and center. This created a distinct challenge when it came to imagery. On our last site, blog images weren't mandatory and so they weren't often used. That wasn't going to work on this site. We didn't want to use a typical stock image driven approach. It feels a little boring and dated to me. Instead, I decided to create a custom monochromatic illustration style to use on all of our posts.
Additionally, we embedded that illustration style all throughout the site, creating a unique look and feel that helps distinguish us from our competitors while having a little fun too!
